The York was a Confederate privateer. Formerly the pilot boat Florida of Norfolk. This little schooner was of only 68 tons burden, mounted one 8-pounder rifle, and carried about thirty men. She fitted out in her home port, under Captain John Geoffrey, and came down into the North Carolina sounds by way of the Albemarle Canal.
