January 27, 1862 – The Quarters of the Illinois Cavalry

The Illinois Cavalry are now quartered this city. They occupy, as quarters, beside the buildings mentioned in our issue of Saturday, the following places:—The residences lately occupied by Dr. S. A. Williams, David Funsten and E. J. Miller, and the new house adjoining the latter, on Washington street; residence lately occupied by Wm. Baker, on the corner of Pitt and Duke streets; residence lately occupied by R. M. Smith, on Royal street; the residence lately occupied by John Arnold, on Prince street, below Fairfax, and a considerable number of small houses at the lower end of Wolfe street. The quartermaster’s department of the regiment is at the store lately occupied by M. M. Mankins, at the corner of Wolfe and Water streets.
