December 5, 1861 – News from the CT 5th

Our Cornwall Correspondent speaks of letters having been received from the 5th Reg’t C. V., stating that their tents were uncomfortable, and of other inconveniences and negligences from which the men in that Regiment at present suffer. We have for sometime apprised of this fact but have no doubt, the solution will be found in the fact of Col. Ferry’s long and severe illness and the entire absence or unfaithfulness of officers in his staff, in command of the Reg’t. We trust these misfortunes, to call them by no harsher name, of the officers in charge, will be speedily remedied; and we have faith, now that Col. Ferry is pronounced convalescent and as about to rejoin his Regiment, if indeed he has no already done so, that the personal comforts of our brave soldiers will he attended to.
