The crew of the gun boat Ottawa, and, we presume, of other vessels engaged in the capture of Forts Walker and Beauregard, at Port Royal, were recruited in Chicago and Milwaukee, by Thomas H. Stevens, who commanded the Ottawa in the engagement. Lieut. Stevens was formerly the First Lieutenant of the Government steamer Michigan, of the Lake service. He obtained two hundred and thirty sailors in Chicago, and fifty in Milwaukee, for the new gun-boats. John Barry, a Manitowoc boy, is a sailor on the frigate Susquehannah which took an important part in the capture.
