Motoring Accidents

The secretary of state announces that in the last six months of 1919, motor vehicle accidents in Vermont to the number of 1,126 were reported to him; of that number 951 were considered serious enough to warrant classification. The cause attributed to the largest number is “negligence of the operator” and speeding and reckless driving comes next. Taking away his license is a punishment that generally leaves the offender in a sadder but wiser frame of mind, but is like locking the stable after the horse has been stolen. Accident prevention is the remedy and the man who curbs his speed mania and keeps his mind on the job when driving will help to reduce the number of such reports.
