Important news reaches us from Kentucky, which indicates that the purpose of the rebels is to hold their position in the State, whatever may be the action of the Legislature. and whatever may be the protests uttered against it by the great majority of the people. Not the slightest doubt remains that the neutrality of Kentucky has been violated by the express order of the rebel Government. At Columbus, the National scouts report there were on Tuesday no less than fifteen thousand rebel troops, and they have since received considerable accessions to their numbers. The number at Hickman is not known, but it is probably at least five thousand. Kentucky is likely soon to be become an important battle-ground. It will be seen, however, that in this crisis the Legislature of that has adopted a truly patriotic course. They have, by a decided majority, ordered the rebel troops to leave the State, and have refused, by an equally decisive majority, to take the same course with the National forces.
