July 11, 1861 – The Steamer Winslow

We notice that the steamer Winslow, under the command of Lieut. Crossan is spoken of in some papers as a privateer steamer. This is a mistake. She is a public armed vessel belonging to and in service to the State of North Carolina, in which service Lieut. Crossan holds a regular commission. The Winslow has recently made three valuable captures.
