In Strange Waters

Some shad fishermen while hauling in their net at the mouth of the Christiana on Saturday discovered that they had caught some creature of rather formidable dimensions, which was making violent efforts to escape from the seine. An examination showed that it was an enormous sea turtle that had some how in endeavoring to escape from the confines of the net got hopelessly entangled. The men at once set about capturing the creature and after a hard struggle, daring which the boat was very nearly upset succeeded in capturing him. After he was in the boat he flopped about at a great rate. It was found that the net had been torn very badly. The turtle weighed just 78 pounds. It was purchased by Mr. John W. Reynolds, proprietor of the Malta House, who will serve it up in soup tomorrow night. Sea turtles do not often come up the Delaware above salt water.
