May 10, 1861 – Official Courtesies

Hon. Wm, H. Seward, Mr. Lincoln’s Secretary of State, has forwarded to the Hon. Robert Toombs, Secretary of State of the Confederate States, a copy enclosed in a government envelope, of Mr. Lincoln’s blockade proclamation. The courtesy and kind feeling which prompt was duly appreciated, and in return, a copy of President Davis’ proclamation in reference to privateering has been forwarded to Mr. Seward, enclosed in a government envelope of the Confederate States. Our government does not intend to allow the Northern Government to get the start of them in courtesy and politeness.—Montgomery Mail.
