Major Beall, late paymaster in the United States service, arrived in this city yesterday from St. Louis, and is stopping at the Gayosa House. Major Beall will leave this afternoon for Charleston, where be goes to offer his service to the Confederate States, having resigned his commission in the army of the late United States.

Lloyd James Beall was a West Point graduate and U.S. Army officer who resigned his commission and “went south” to join the Confederate forces. He was appointed Colonel Commandant of the Confederate States Marine Corps and served in that position for the duration of the war.
