Capt. Wm. R Vaughan, the gallant commander of the “Old Dominion Dragoons,” of Hampton, has obtained permission from the War Department to raise a battalion of cavalry for “independent service in the Peninsula.” We are gratified to hear that nearly three companies have been mustered, with some prospects of a fourth.
The battalion will be composed in part of the “Old Dominion Dragoons,” nearly all of whom hove re-enlisted for the war. They are all well acquainted with the country, and in that respect will be of great advantage and assistance to the companies that may be united with them. As the fourth company is yet wanting to make up this battalion, we would suggest this as a fine field to some gentlemen, who may have got up, or may be getting up a cavalry company. Capt. Vaughan will show them game, and no mistake.
