January 13, 1862 – The Regiment of Planters’ Life Guard

We are pleased to learn that the Regiment of Planters’ Life Guard, which has for sometime past been in course of organization for Confederate service by Colonel DeVeuve, is now rapidly approaching completion, and it is expected will be ready for service in a very short time. When it is understood that Col. DVenuve has not only had to enlist the men, but to provide them arms, subsistence and equipment, those who have wondered at the slow progress made by him will wonder no longer. Thanks to liberal aid from planters and merchants, the Colonel has now, we learn, ample means at his command to supply every want, and has also arms enough to furnish the men as rapidly as they are mustered into service. His arms are all first-class, as those companies of the Beauregard Regiment, which borrowed some from him on Wednesday last, can certify, and we are sure, in the hands of such men as Col. DeVeuve has in his command, will be made to do good service. Success to him and his regiment.
