November 16, 1861 – Past Due Partiality

Our Camp Hoffman correspondent alludes to some slight disappointment on the part of company A., for The Whig‘s failing to notice their flag presentation. If the company had sent us an account of the affair we would have been glad to have noticed it.

We have learned casually that some of the Cecil companies are inclined to he jealous of our notice of the “Big Elk Rangers,” thinking we are partial. We doun’t [sic] intend to show any partiality among our friends where all are equally brave and praise worthy.

We may possibly have unwittingly offended in that manner, the Rangers always having been very punctual in paying their printer’s bill, which some other companies have not. This may have, unawares, bribed our admiration. Suppose some in arrears try the experiment. We don’t mean private subscriptions, but advertising and printing for the company.
