October 21, 1861 – Good Quarters for the Soldiers

A correspondent suggests that very comfortable quarters for the soldiers stationed in Worcester may be had at the South Junction machine shop. The building is empty, is two stories high, and some five hundred feet long, and would make excellent barracks for a regiment of men. There is a large dry and level field of several acres contiguous to the building, very suitable for drilling purposes. The Norwich railroad passes close by it, and the Western railroad is but a short distance away. As the season is wet, and cooler weather is soon coming, we hope the place referred to will be examined, (especially if another regiment is to be stationed here, as is reported,) and if found suitable, perhaps our soldiers may be quartered on drier soil than the Agricultural Grounds have been found to be during the past week.
