October 15, 1861 – Lincoln at the Camps

President Lincoln is quite active in visiting the troops, fortification, &c., and is becoming acquainted with the vast detail of army movements. Sometimes at midnight, he visits the telegraph office in the War Department, and sits there gleaning all the information which has centered at that point from different portions of the country.
