Crew Saved, Steamer Will Be a Total Loss

St. Johns, N. F., Aug. 1.—Having lost her position In a dense fog the freight steamer Cyril, from Miramichi, bound for England, ran ashore today at Portuguese Cove, west of Cape Race. The crew were rescued but the steamer will probably be a total loss.

Two other steamers in the fog off Cape race have been whistling and it is feared they may meet the same fate that befell the Cyril. Arrangements have been made for the salvage of the wrecked ship’s cargo.

The Cyril is of 1469 tons net register, and is owned by Turnbull Brothers of Cardiff, Wales.
