July 25, 1861 – A Lady’s Story

A lady just arrived from North Carolina reports that the dry goods stores in the large towns and cities of that State are almost wholly destitute of articles for ladies use. Her female friends begged all the pins, needles, and similar articles from her, before she started for the North, as they said she could readily obtain a supply here, whereas they either did or should want them long before they could reasonably hope to purchase them as in “Union times.”
