Disputes Over Merits of U.S. and Spain

Providence, June 23.—Horace G. Mullen will spend 30 days in jail because of a dispute in which he participated as to the relative merits of the United States and Spain. He was in a saloon when the topic was taken up, and as he did not agree with the sentiments of some others in the saloon, he went over into a railroad yard and secured a coupling pin, which he hurled as a convincing argument against his opponents, who were Spanish sympathizers. He was indicted for assault with a dangerous weapon, but pleaded nole contendre to simple assault.
