Reports of a collision between the schooner Frank E. Swain, Boston for Charleston, S. C., and the schooner Sarah and Lucy, Boston for New York, near the Cross Rip lightship, were reported Sunday afternoon to the revenue cutter Acushnet by the pilot of a west bound steamer, the Toronto. The Acushnet left immediately to go to the assistance of the disabled vessels. The Sarah and Lucy apparently was the worst damaged, having lost her jib-boom, bowsprit and anchor. She was towed to an anchorage in Vineyard Haven, the Swain being towed in by the tug Orion, which came down from Boston. The spanker of the Swain was torn to ribbons and her port rail and afterhouse were badly damaged. Neither vessel was leaking. This is the second time the Acushnet has assisted the Sarah and Lucy.
