May 2, 1861 – New York State Troops

SYRACUSE, April 30. The Onondaga Regiment, consisting of ten complete companies of volunteers, is now full, and ready to respond to the Governor’s orders. It is understood from Albany that they have been accepted, and will proceed to the Elmira rendezvous in a few days. Field officers were elected yesterday. Col. Walworth [Ezra Walrath], of the 51st Regiment State Militia, was elected Colonel unanimously. Steps are already taken to organize an other regiment.

ALBANY, April 30. —A fine company of volunteers, eighty-two in number, left to-night to join the Twenty-fifth Regiment. The new company is founded on the late Burgesses Corps, eleven of whom go with them. Capt. Kingsley, late of the Burgesses Corps, is commander. Capt. Jack Lawless and several of his best men are in the ranks, his projected company having been disbanded.
