Flames Endanger Cape Cod Forests

Sandwich, Mass., April 27—Cape Cod forests were again threatened today when a tire broke out and swept over 1,000 acres in the towns of Sandwich, Bourne, and Falmouth. Late tonight the weary volunteer firemen, who had saved the large summer estate of Percival Lombard of Brookline, believed the blaze was under control.

The fire, starting in the Pocohasset Woods of Bourne near the large area burned by the fires of last year devastated tho state lands and then extended into Sandwich, threatening the village of Forstdale. Farmers’ wood lots of pine and oak were wiped out, but little commercial timber was destroyed.
