The steamer Thistle Brings account of H.M. cutter Prince George, Lieut. Aird, being at Twofold Bay, wind bound, and coming on to Sydney after taking in a supply of water, and that the Prince George reports the total wreck of the ship Hydrabad, 694 tons, Captain Robertson, and the barque Coringa Packet, 230 tons. Captain Chilicott, in Torres Straits. The former vessel left Sydney, for Calcutta, oil the 3rd of May last with horses and tile latter on the 14th April for Ceylon with sundries. No particulars have yet been received relative to link unfortunate occurrence, further than it was stated one man belonging to the Hydrabad had been drowned and that some of the passengers and crew had remained on an island, while others had left in boats for Port Essington where, it is stated, they had arrived.
Loss of the “Pedlar.”— The schooner Pedlar, 30 tons, belonging to Mr, John Guillan, was lost on Saturday, near the spot where the Tobago became wrecked. About half-past eleven o’clock at night the vessel struck, though apparently very slightly, on the sunken rocks off the Shear Beacon, but was immediately in deep water. Shortly afterwards the passengers cried out they were drowning, and in a few minutes the chests, bedding, &c. were washing about the cabin. This happened during a heavy squall ; from the quantity of water in the vessel, she was with difficulty kept before the wind, and the necessity for steering for the reef became evident, as she was settling fast, her lee rail and hawse-holes being at that time under water. She grounded on the reef, and the passengers having been safely placed in the boat, remained alongside until three o’clock in the morning. The schooner beat over the reef, and sank in deep water. The Alexander has been Sent down to render assistance, but very slight hopes are entertained of raising her. The Pedlar was in the Circular Head trade, and was bound there with a miscellaneous cargo the principal part of which belonged lo Mr. Guillan.— Launceston Examiner.
