March 29, 1861 – The Luetzen Jaegers

New Orleans boasts of a company of Germans—many of whom have seen service in Europe—styled the “Luetzen Jaegers.” The Captain and First Lieutenant of the corps served with distinction in the Prussian army, and its Second Lieutenant belonged for ten years to the English army.—The uniform of the company is of a decidedly sombre hue—round jacket, pants, kepi and belts, all are black.
