A new railroad is in contemplation for connecting the Deep Run and
Springfield Coal Pits, located in the upper part of Henrico county, with the York River Railroad. A bill has already passed for incorporating the road, which, when finished, will be nineteen miles long. From careful surveys, it has been ascertained that the entire road will cost about $150,000. It will cross the Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad about Hungary Station, a distance about 3 1/2 miles above Richmond. The road to that point is already completed. From thence to the connecting point on the York River Railroad, the distance is 16 miles—8 miles below Richmond, where a junction is effected. At the latter point the grade is 121 feet below the Fredericksburg Railroad. The new railroad. will pass down the valley of Brooke and Chickahominy Swamps. No doubt, as soon as the proper surveys are made, the road will be commenced, as the Pitts are a paying institution.
