The Great Whisky Case

We reported, yesterday morning, the great whisky case at St. Louis. The Assistant District Attorney said : The Nimrod Johnson distillery, at Gretna, where it was claimed the whisky was manufactured, was one of the finest in the South, with a capacity of from thirty to thirty-five barrels per day, and it was in evidence that only six of these were sent into a bonded warehouse. The others were taken to the levee, in front of the rectifying house, and the inspector deceived about them. The officers gave certificates, and the barrels were removed to the levee at New Orleans or to steamboats for shipment. The rectifying house, he said, was a mere blind, and owned by the parties who owned the distillery.
