The New Orleans Bee states:
It is a common remark among those who indulge in conjectures respecting the future, that should the union of the States ever be consolidated, the South will stipulate for the exclusion of New England from the new compact. That section of country might properly annex itself to Canada, and become part and parcel of the loyal appanage of the British crown. Under a monarchical form of government we think the New Englanders would be more contented than they now ere. With us they have only served to create disatisfaction and discord. Without them we sincerely believe there never would nave existed the slightest trouble between the States, and with them we are thoroughly satisfied that uninterrupted harmony can never be secured.
